Title:

The Outer Space Treaty (1967) Arms Control Provisions

Location:

Archway 2 - 1:00 pm, Friday 27 April

Abstract:

Outer space continues to be a fundamental area for both international law and international relations. Whilst good international relations pertaining to outer space are fundamental to the environment in which they are discussed, the international law applicable to outer space remains 'stagnant'. The outer space treaty 1967 is not what should be a solid pillar of guidance in the international system, especially its arms control provisions. This paper addresses some of the fundamental problems incorporated into the outer space treaty 1967 and addresses the arms control provision's (article IV) limited application.
