Title:

FourARM pain from banging in the IR lab

Location:

Archway 2 - 1:00 pm, Friday 14 September

Abstract:

Since January 2012 the Information Retrieval Research Lab has been designing and building a desktop personal cloud super computer. The first prototype, known as the FourARM, is a 4-node cloud. Each node has a Freescale i.MX233 ARM CPU, 128MB RAM and 1GB Flash. The nodes are connected using USB. The lab has designed an operating system for this board and is current bringing it up. The second prototype will be based on the i.MX6Q quad-core ARM CPU and the lab is awaiting information on the chip before designing and manufacturing boards. Oh, and it'll be solar powered too! In this presentation Andrew will outline the motivation behind building his super computer, how far he has got, and where his research is leading.
