Title:

Dynamic Institutional Structures

Location:

Owheo 106 - 1:00 pm, Friday 13 September

Abstract:

Institutions are often described as the key driver for economic and social development of societies, and they are associated with the question why some societies fare better than others. This is an apt problem area for agent-based modelling, since we can investigate various hypotheses by examining the dynamic examination of their instantiations in silica.

In this talk we will discuss two related research investigations in this area. We review a historical trader scenario from the area of comparative economics, which we remodelled using agent-based modelling to test some of its underlying assumptions. A second research aspect we address is the provision of a unified representation of institutions that extends Crawford and Ostrom's Grammar of Institutions with a dynamic perspective.
