Title:

Champollion meets Apollyon: Why Empirical Software Engineering is Hard

Location:

Owheo G34 - 1:00 pm, Friday 18 March

Abstract:

We all have opinions about programming languages. Wouldn't it be lovely if they were based on empirical measurements? Nanz and Furia published a detailed study based on RosettaCode, which is the most broadly based study I'm aware of. In this talk I show some of the reasons why I do not put much faith in their results, and why it is hard to do better.
