Title:

Bad Writing

Location:

Owheo G34 - 1:00 pm, Friday 11th October

Abstract:

Most published technical writing is bad. It is so bad you would think the authors intended it that way. You would suppose that they did not want anyone to understand what they had written. The problem is not new. There are many books on how to write clearly. We have created a culture where bad writing is rewarded. What are the real reasons for this disease? Can we do anything about it?

Invitation:

If anyone is brave enough, send me a page of your own, published, technical writing by Wednesday 9 October. I will use it as an example of either the right way or the wrong way to write. Send to geoff@otago.ac.nz
