"What is the Fuss about Agile Methods?"

Abstract:

Agile software processes (like Extreme Programming, Scrum, and others) are a recent trend in the software industry. According to Giga Information Group Inc., more than two-thirds of all corporate IT organizations will use some form of agile software development process within the next 12 months. The presentation will give an introductory overview on agile methods. It will then discuss the benefits and issues with applying agile approaches and present some initial empirical evidence. Finally, it will present the MASE tool for supporting project planning and coordination of agile teams.

Bio:

Dr. Frank Maurer is the head of the e-Business engineering (ebe) group at the University of Calgary. His research interests are agile software methodologies, web engineering, globally distributed software development, and experience & knowledge management. He is program co-chair of SEKE 2004 and recently served as the program co-chair of XP Agile Universe 2003. More information about his research can be found at http://sern.ucalgary.ca/~maurer.
