Title:

Why Astrology Ought to Work but Doesn't

Location:

Archway 2 - 1:00 pm, Friday 20 April

Abstract:

Historically, a great deal of human computation was devoted to astrology. These days, more computer time is spent on it than you might think (try a Google search for "Astrology software").

In this talk, I explain how intelligent human beings might have invented a form of astrology for good reason, why a common error in human reasoning could have led them to elaborate it, and what is different about modern societies that should make astrology valueless.

The seminar is half fun and full earnest, and really has nothing to do with computers, except to provide a Dreadful Warning of how sensible people can go wrong.
