Title:

3D Reconstruction from View Planar Radiographic Projections

Location:

Archway 2 - 1:00 pm, Friday 27 April

Abstract:

Computerized tomography has become a standard technology producing excellent insights into the human body. But this technology has still some drawbacks such as high price, high radiation dose and limited mobility. Therefore increasing interest has been directed towards three-dimensional reconstructions from few two-dimensional radiographic projections.

In this talk I present a method to generate 3D-reconstructions of the inside of an object from only a few planar radiographic projections generated with standard X-ray equipment for radiography. The reconstruction process relies on a reference sphere based registration step, transfering the radiographic projections made from different positions into a common coordinate system. The registration is proceeded by a fast 3D-reconstruction step, due to a pixel-based backprojection method.

The presented system generates 3D-reconstructions of adequate quality by significant lower costs and reduced radiation dose compared to computerized tomography.
