Title:

COMP103 - What's Going On?

Location:

Archway 2 - 1:00 pm, Friday 20 July

Abstract:

COMP103 is our introductory programming course. Every year a large percentage of the student population fail. Why? Should we be concerned? What can we do about it? What kinds of problems are students having as they try to learn Java?

I don't have good answers to all of those questions, but I do have partial answers to some of them. In particular, I will describe our study of the kinds of problems that students are experiencing in COMP103 labs. We collected data from every lab over a three year period. What does it all mean?
