It is sometimes claimed that commercial software is more reliable than open source software. It is sometimes claimed that extensive testing, as in Extreme Programming, can lead to better software.
I present some bugs found in commercial Smalltalk systems (the environment and culture where unit testing frameworks such as jUnit had their origin) and suggest why testing might not find such bugs.
We are not building our houses on sand, but on paper tissues.
