Title:

Niching methods for evolutionary algorithms - where to from here?

Location:

Archway 2 - 1:00 pm, Friday 6 August

Abstract:

The concept of niching is fundamental to multimodal problem solving. Many problems are naturally multimodal in that they possess multiple solutions that are functionally equivalent. The field of evolutionary computation has provided many techniques for multimodal search, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. This talk will review these techniques, and contextualise them within recently developed niching methods. In doing so, the talk will identify some obstacles that the field of niching must overcome if it is to become a widely used concept in evolutionary computation.
